18 ct white and yellow gold rings with coloured sapphires
Alluvial sourced gold extracts the gold nuggets formed by the action of water eroding gold from deposits in rock over many thousands of years. This gold found in riverbeds varies in shape and size from fine dust to flakes and nuggets.
Alluvial sourced gold is extracted from running streams or dry streams, by panning for gold - a technique similar to that depicted in old black and white Wild West movies.
Wide, shallow pans are filled with sand and gravel that may contain gold. The gold is extracted by shaking and swilling the pans, using gravity to separate the gold from the other deposits. Sluicing is a less labour-intensive form of gold panning. The sluice box is placed in a stream. The water carries the gold and rocks through the box, where they are separated and the gold is removed.
Alluvial sourced gold is known as ‘green gold’ as it does not use cyanide or other toxic chemicals in the extraction process. It complies with socially and environmentally responsible practices, and meets a rigorous certification process on all mining methods.
