The Allen Brown Gallery believes that even contemporary precious jewellery can be ethically traded, using conflict-free diamonds and "green gold".
We feel that it is the job of a proactive, innovative, forward-looking business like the Allen Brown Gallery to be at the forefront of new ideas, not just in design - which is what initially draws many people to us - but increasingly in this globalised world, to encourage people to consider the route source of their precious items.
We are well-known locally for using unusual gem stones and coloured diamonds, highlighted by their frequent use in our collections over the last 22 years.
We believe that the best way to achieve ethical trading is to deal with the mines and their representatives ourselves, so Allen has been sourcing stones personally for a number of years. We work closely with several hand-picked mines in Brazil, where we know that workers are fairly treated and employed in safe working conditions.
Our long-established remodelling work - creating new pieces by reusing the metals and gems in outdated pieces - means we are helping to conserve the earth's resources for generations to come.
Our diamonds are purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict in compliance with United Nations Resolutions. Our sellers guarantee that they are conflict free, based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the supplier of these diamonds. In many parts of the world, mining for gold is a dirty business in terms of the chemicals it uses, the waste produced and the effect these have on both the miners and surrounding communities.
The Allen Brown Gallery is committed to finding reliable and sustainable sources of greener gold that has been produced without the use of cyanide, in safe and fair conditions for workers.
To achieve this we have signed up to the No Dirty Gold campaign and supporting organisations such as the ARM (Association for Responsible Mining) and Corporacion de Oro Verde to achieve this.
